Did you know I work in a dungeon?
Just kidding. I sew in my basement.

But there are advantages that far outweigh it’s dungeon like qualities.
1. It’s quiet.
2. No one likes to come down into the basement so it’s peaceful. Once we remodel and upgrade that will change - -but I’ll deal with that when I have to.
3. I can spread out all my projects. I have cobbled together a pretty workable area.
4. It’s organized. Well — relatively for me. I know where everything is and that makes it much more efficient.
5. The laundry gets done when I’m sewing. Think that’s an advantage? I do. I hate taking multiple trips up and down the basement stairs to get laundry done. Out of sight out of mind and all that. When I don’t pay attention it reproduces itself into a ginormous 10 load pile that is overwhelming.
6. I haven’t been able to sew because of my dislocated shoulder. So my Mom’s SO and mine collaborated and built this platform so I can sit at the machine and NOT RAISE my shoulder when I sew. I like it a lot. It’s not elegant — but it really enables me to work and I’m soooo grateful.

Actually I really just want to talk about this really cool thing I got for Christmas — The block butler. It sticks on your wall and you can put all your quilting blocks up on it over and over again. And you can stick it anywhere. If you look under Clever Ideas — I liked using a small piece to stick your foot pedal to the floor so it doesn’t move. Here’s a review from Quilter’s Review. When I was working on my line quilt top — it made it much easier to piece together because I could look up and see the next section and how it was supposed to go.
It’s not perfect however. Don’t try to put it up alone. You’ll go crazy. And it took a day for it to completely stick up on the wall and acclimate. However — what it does do and what it CAN do (once my imagination gets going — this would be awesome for my office too) far outweigh the annoying parts…

I’m truly loving this product!

Your innovation which enables you to continue to sew with a shoulder injury deserves a special mention.

you know? I’m actually liking the platform and may keep it indefinitely — except for threading the needle — it’s GREAT for quilting.
